Research on podcasts

 A podcast is a digital medium consisting of an episodic series of audio, video, PDF, or ePub files subscribed to and downloaded through web syndication or streamed online to a computer or mobile device. The word is a neologism derived from "broadcast" and "pod" from the success of the iPod, as audio podcasts are often listened to on portable media players. 

The term "podcasting" was first mentioned by Ben Hammersley in The Guardian newspaper in a February 2004 article, along with other proposed names for the new medium. It is a portmanteau of the words "pod" —from iPod— and "broadcast". Despite the etymology, the content can be accessed using any computer that can play media files and not just portable music players. Use of the term "podcast" predates the addition of native support for podcasting to the iPod, or to Apple's iTunes software. 

This is the logo apple use to represent podcasts, as apple are a big brand themselves, this logo is highly recognised.

Knowledge on creating a podcast

How much do I know?

I know what a podcast is and what it includes and therefore I am able to piece together a piece of information which I feel may interest people. I aim to not make it boring and hopefully interest people as they listen to it. 

I am fairly confident with adobe audition and therefore feel I can piece together a good piece of work.
I have been looking in to some music I may want to use in my introduction and to end my podcast however I haven't chosen anything officially yet. 

I will be recording my podcast on my mac, as it allows me to record sounds and then save them on to the computer where I am able to then edit them in audition.

Research in to Marshall McLuhan

'Herbert Marshall McLuhan, CC (July 21, 1911 – December 31, 1980) was a Canadian philosopher of communication theory. His work is viewed as one of the cornerstones of the study of media theory, as well as having practical applications in the advertising and television industries.

McLuhan is known for coining the expressions the medium is the message and the global village, and for predicting the World Wide Web almost thirty years before it was invented. Although he was a fixture in media discourse in the late 1960s, his influence began to wane in the early 1970s.In the years after his death, he continued to be a controversial figure in academic circles. With the arrival of the internet, however, there was renewed interest in his work and perspective.

In the early 1960s, McLuhan wrote that the visual, individualistic print culture would soon be brought to an end by what he called "electronic interdependence": when electronic media replace visual culture with aural/oral culture. In this new age, humankind will move from individualism and fragmentation to a collective identity, with a "tribal base." McLuhan's coinage for this new social organisation is the global village.'
